We’re hosting a textile raffle to raise funds for the first in-print publication of Warp and Weft since 1985. The revival of this publication means a new wave of weaving knowledge shared amongst artists, exploring new weave drafts and techniques, and highlighting studio practices, weaving heritage and cultural making from around the world. You can read more about the origins of the Warp and Weft periodical here.

So, why now and why a raffle? This pandemic has forced us all to slow down and take a pause, and we believe this is the right time to re-prioritize projects that will immediately benefit the weaving community. Now more than ever, weavers and makers need inspiration, new projects and creative connection. We think that hosting a raffle is more valuable than an a typical auction because it will allow people from all backgrounds and financial means the opportunity to participate and potentially own something special. Every raffle ticket purchased is a direct donation to Warp and Weft, and all proceeds will go towards initial printing costs, weaving support and editorial assistance.

Nineteen talented artists have donated artworks to this raffle — Alec Lamb, Susie Taylor, Kristen Kaas, Audrey Ducas, Molly Haynes, Emma Shepherd, Jessica Mordine Young, Rachel Ehlin-Smith, James Davis, Jennifer Simms, Katie Strano, Kayla Powers, Megan Koons, Annette Aylward, Ally Rousseau, Hollie Ward, Tehya Shea, Vicky Cowin, Rachel Snack — some of which have already participated in our bi-weekly interview series called Field Notes (individually linked) or are scheduled to in the future. We’re incredibly thankful for their support and dedication to this project.

Warp and Weft is a magazine for weavers, by weavers — we’re happy you’re here and we hope you’ll get involved.
